The Story

Poinsettias have been one of my favorite holiday icons for many years. I'm not sure why. They're cheerful color especially the traditional reds, put the biggest smile on my face. They signify the happy holidays and I love having them around. I use to have hundreds of silk poinsettias I used to decorate my entire house with inside and out. Now I prefer to have just a few real ones.

Technique

This gallery wrapped canvas (no staples showing) is painted on all sides. I started with a solid coat of black then worked rich red and green colors on top of it. Many who have seen it in person commented how 3 dimensional it looks. It's finished with 2 coats of varnish and a hanger.

Additional Notes

  • Acrylic on Canvas or Cradled Wood Panels — Unframed vs Framed: I finish the edges of my canvases and cradled panels so they are ready to hang as is. However, a frame does add a nice finishing touch. Most of my acrylic paintings are standard size (although some not as common a size) and ready made frames can usually be purchased online at many locations such as DickBlick.com, PictureFrames.com, JerrysArtarama.com, and even Amazon. There are many many more. OR take it to your local custom framer for even more options. I recommend getting a frame that is specifically for a "canvas painting" with no glass. Regular style frames will not be deep enough to easily accommodate a thick canvas/panel.
