Garden Glory

The Story

Iris bloom for such a short time it seems. There are some springs I almost miss them because I wasn't paying attention. This year I decided to keep watch and paint them en plein air (outside sitting in front of them). I chose a larger canvas than usual and couldn't finish it the first day. Unfortunately the blooms I worked from were mostly dead the next day, so I cut a few new flowers for a vase in my studio as inspiration and finished it inside.

Technique

I painted the acrylic in a watercolor style with some splattering for the background, then opaque acrylic for the flowers and leaves. The design continues around on the edges to give it a 3 dimension feel.
