The Story:

Not all bananas are created equal. Some are simply… destined for banana bread.

I’ve seen bananas with a few polite brown spots, but these went all in. Covered in bold, freckled polka dots, they had reached that perfect stage of ripeness where their flavor is richest and their future is inevitable. They became the ideal subject for my “Daily Art from Life” challenge: ordinary objects, observed closely, before they disappear.

As I painted this 8x10 watercolor still life, their sweet aroma filled the room, impossible to ignore. The real challenge was capturing those nuanced color shifts: golden yellows deepening into warm browns, the softness you can almost feel through the paper. It’s a brief window in time, and one worth preserving before it turns into something else entirely.

This piece celebrates the beauty of everyday moments, the kind we often overlook, while adding a lighthearted nod to what comes next.
