The Story
Painted en plein air... I sat right next to the edge of the Illinois River. So close that when boats went by the water lapped at the edge just inches from my toes. Such a pleasant afternoon painting.
The Illinois River has been a crucial part of Peoria's history, serving as a transportation hub and source of industry for over a century.
Technique
Watercolor on Canvas! About the 4th painting using this technique. I felt I had a little better handle on it than when I started. It's a little challenging since the color sits on the surface and when you try to layer another color over the first color, they blend together or completely lift and dissolve. But the advantage of painting on canvas (after I seal it with wax), it's ready to hang even without a frame. But a frame does give it that elegant finishing touch!
